Group tours and talks

A walk with one of our guides is a stimulating social activity for all kinds of people. A guided walk can also be a lively learning experience in a school curriculum or as an event in an enrichment/general studies programme.

School and student groups
We love bringing the history and geography of Guildford to life and our walks can be tailored to suit topics covered in the curriculum. We can cover most periods in history except the Romans. The walks are free for school groups and students in full time education. However, we request donations from language schools and similar institutions.

Club and adult groups
Guildford story is the most popular walk for groups, but if you have done this why not try one of our theme walks. A donation of £5 per person is generally requested in aid of our charity of the year, Guildford Street Angels. Bookings are available throughout the year.

Arrange a tour to suit your needs
Get in touch with us as early as possible to arrange a date, a time and a topic. We recommend contacting us at least 2 months in advance so that there is a reasonable chance that our guides will be free. We will need to know roughly how large the group will be, and your preferred date and time, with some alternatives if possible.
The length of the tour and the start and finish points can be adjusted to suit your programme.
Primary schools
We aim to make the walks interesting and fun. They are perhaps most suited to years 3 - 6.
It is particularly important to get in touch with us early for large groups planning multiple activities.
Let us know if you have specific ideas or requirements, and we will do our best to assist.
'I hope we can repeat the trip again in the years to come as it was a definite success from our side!'

Visits inside the wonderful buildings?
You might wish to combine one of our tours with a visit to the Great Tower of the Castle, a visit to Guildford museum or a few hours in the Victorian Schoolroom. If so, you will need to contact the Education Officer at Heritage Services heritageservices@guildford.gov.uk to confirm the costs and timing of such activities.

We can accommodate special requests for example working with a translator for foreign language speakers. We have German and French speakers in our team.
Size of group
We suggest a maximum of 15-20 people per guide. Larger groups will therefore need to be split between several guides. For the Guildford Story walk, we can mobilize up to 6 guides. For the theme walks, however, the number of guides is generally limited to 2 or 3.
We accept bookings for 6 or more. We would only do walks for smaller groups in exceptional circumstances.

Charity donations

Guildford Street Angels is our partner charity for the year 2020. The first £2000 raised from group events this year will go to the Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy which runs Street Angels in Guildford. The Angels are a fantastic organization who provide care and support for people in need on Guildford's streets every Friday and Saturday night.
